20 and 22 inch tall core model swap

Alterations: hoses, fan, cap and shroud

While we are in development on making a drop in for the larger size core,  many of our off road and modding community currently will use this unit in place of the 20 and 22 inch tall core models.

The 22, 20 and 18 inch tall toyota radiators all bolt in directly to the 3.4, 2.7 and 2.4 trucks in a similar manner.  yes, this shorter radiator will fit fine.

The alterations come in the hoses and fan shroud.

Most toyota tacoma, 4runner and pickup offroaders and modders are 3.4 guys all wanting a shorter rad that will be above the frame rails.

If the truck is a 3.4 the upper OEM radiator hose stays the same. The lower has to be changed. Most users have found that dayco c71765 slightly cut fits the lower very well. The 18 inch core uses a different radiator cap as well which you can easily adjust for.

Lastly the shroud issues...basically you can run without one, build one, or swap to an electrical fan setup.  As far as bolt on there is no shroud that bolts up without modification and works with the 3.4 Manual fan.

We suggest a 16 inch fan (Link to item) which can be core mounted or attached to your fabricated built shroud.

Final thing to look at with this swap... is cooling.

Will this smaller radiator cool enough for the larger size originals?

Many people get concerned about loosing 4 inches of cooling but there are other guys running supercharged 3.4s that haven't had any issues with the 18 in the summer. The 18 fully clears the bottom of the frame rail.

When we do put the 20 and 22 inch into production (We need more demand so sound off with some comments!!!) We'd say go for that model.  until we do, feedback has been that the 18 inch is cooling just fine in the summer months.  Seeing as the 18 inch tall all aluminum radiator clears the bottom of the frame rails, it makes for a good swap item.

Difference between Name Brand and Generic All Aluminum Radiators

Why our All Aluminum Radiators are Better than the Competition

Ok, there are all aluminum and plastic aluminum replacement radiators all over the internet.  So which one should you choose?  Aren't they all the same?

First, NO they are not all the same.  Just like any other item sold in store or online, there are good and bad versions available at different price points.

In terms of a radiator, let's not forget we are putting that item in a moving vehicle.  if a cheap TV goes bad, you may be ok dropping it back off into a store and missing a couple day's worth of shows, but do you want to have your vehicle stop working on a highway?  Can you afford to miss work because the cheap product you installed went immediately bad?

As a national auto parts supplier, Radiator Express only sells stock dealer quality and enhanced products. Our price points are competitive online and the quality will meet or exceed anything you can purchase from a dealership.

Today we will discuss the now popular "all aluminum" radiator upgrade.  Many users do not like that stock radiators are made with plastic tanks... they crack and wear over time.. Yes, the manufacturer has made them to break over time... Everything is made to break in today's market.  This also applies to the all aluminum radiator that you may be tempted to buy at a super low price on ebay or amazon.

Below are pictures of our radiator compared to the competition.  As you can clearly see, the item we manufacturer will be much better quality than the "other" guys.

Items designed to break will have many additional welded seams instead of fluid builds.. These added welds and breaks in the product are not only ugly, but they add additional stress points for failure. Building radiators like this saves the manufacturer lot's of money and allows them to sell items at eye popping low prices.  Be very aware and fair warned that cheap radiators you may find online may have a defective rate well above 50%.  That literally means that more than half of the units sold are going to just start leaking for no reason.  It may be a day, a month, or a year, but rest assure you'll be putting a new item in sooner than later.  Unfortunately as well with these futuristic selling platforms, you may not be able to contact the vendor whom sold and shipped you an item directly from overseas.

let's now look at our examples of a properly built Radiator Express radiator compared to the generic version:

Do you sell racing products?

Sure! Visit our sister web site - an authorized member of the Radiator Express ® Network -Race Way Parts via this link: Racewayparts.com
We offer a complete line of performance racing radiators, hot-rod style fits, custom aluminum radiators, and domestic/import racers modeled after the original equipment parts. Fan shrouds, assemblies, wiring, mounting, temp. sensors and many more products are available!
We specialize in Jeep standard / conversion engine setup rock crawling / muddin' radiators!
We encourage you to obtain an OEM (Original Equipment) number for the complete radiator you are looking to replace, as fits are not guaranteed without an exact part number match. Use caution when purchasing a part by core dimension or overall size, appearance, inlet and outlet location, etc. as part numbers can differ by as little as the bolt pattern!

What if my original radiator cap doesn't work?

Stock plastic aluminum models of radiators normally will use the same cap style as the dealer original. Sometimes with certain foreign applications, the aftermarket radiator may use a different cap than stock. If you receive a part, and the cap does not fit, you can either visit your local parts store with the radiator. You can measure the radiator cap connection diameter and fit a cap based on their size. You can also contact us via a support ticket and we will respond with a cap number that will be stocked at your local parts store. Most of the parts we sell that may require a different cap will come with this information on the e-mailed invoice.

"Radiator Expert Tip" - Don't panic if the cap doesn't fit. The local parts store will have a cap that works for your radiator. If we have the part on file, rest assured we will provide that to you at point of sale."

My Radiator Cracked on my Mitsubishi, What can I do?

you would want to put the same vehicle radiator back in. 03 Mitsubishi eclipse. They may have used the same radiator in some of the dodges and that is why someone mentioned that. For a stock replacement visit www.RadiatorExpress.com
Radiator cracks are a common occurrence and many things cause them - overheating, stress, vibration, pressure. None of which have anything to do with the actual "radiator" unit. If you have a reoccurring problem with cracks - then have your vehicle diagnosed for other issues. Normal procedure is to replace the radiator and keep eye on any signs of overheating in the future. In the event the vehicle runs too hot, pull over and let it cool down to prevent failures such as cracks.
The radiator is normally the first unit to fail in a faulty/malfunctioning cooling system. They even sometimes crack due to extremely cold weather..

If you want to avoid this type of situation - then you can look at the all aluminum racing radiators we have listed on www.Racewayparts.com They will be sturdier and provide better cooling capacity than the stock unit. However, they are often custom fit items and may require minor adjustment on the customer's end. We many manufacture red by CSF imports and Mishimoto.

We hope this information was helpful and wish you luck with your purchasing decision.
